The Amazing Goodness of God: Embracing His Purpose in Our Lives

God is truly amazing, and His goodness knows no bounds. The scriptures remind us that "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord" (Isaiah 55:8, ESV). His plans far exceed our own understanding, guiding us through the storms of life and leading us with a grace that brings hope and inspiration.

 Life can often feel like a tumultuous journey, filled with moments of respite amidst storms that seem endless. We may find ourselves walking through the "valley of the shadow of death" (Psalm 23:4, ESV), unsure of how we will make it through. Yet, it is in these times that we cling to that "mustard seed of faith" (Matthew 17:20, ESV) that sustains us. Our souls yearn to revere someone greater than ourselves, and God is indeed the perfect one. He deeply cares for us and understands what we need to grow into the likeness of His Son, Jesus.

One of the most profound ways God shapes us is by refining our character. He delicately dismantles the imperfections within us, replacing them with His spirit and the unique qualities He has chosen for each of us. Just as our bodies are made up of different parts—each serving a vital function within the whole—so too is the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 (ESV) about how “the body is one and has many members,” emphasizing that we all have different strengths and roles to play within the church community.

As we reflect on our purpose, it's crucial to guard against the temptation of viewing God's blessings as burdens. There was a time when I wrestled with this, feeling as though my struggles were a curse rather than an opportunity for growth. After 45 years, I can say I am finally beginning to experience freedom. The journey has unveiled disturbing realizations, painfully revealing the hurt and evil that may lurk within and around us. However, through it all, I see God’s presence and His unwavering support. I firmly believe that He did not allow difficulties, such as my battle with cancer, for the sake of suffering. Instead, He permitted them for my healing—demonstrating that He is in every detail of our lives.

All glory to God and my precious Savior, Jesus Christ! Isn’t He truly good? His goodness sustains us, even in our darkest moments.

So, if you find yourself in a season of trial, remember to hold on tight. God is in the process of molding you. It may be painful, but it’s a profound honor to have the hands of the Creator shaping us to reflect the character of Jesus. With each challenge we face, we draw closer to Him. Our journey may never make us perfect, but it brings us nearer to the day when we step into eternity with Him—what a beautiful thought of “home sweet home.”

Let us give thanks to God for His relentless love and for the journey of becoming more like Him. No matter how hard it gets, trust that He is crafting something beautiful within you, and soon enough, we will see the fruits of that labor.
